A park with a history

A park with a history

The area where the park is located was destined to the production of sugar in the XVI century, from Morro do Corcovado to the banks of the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. Among many owners exchanges, in the first half of XIX century, part of the land belonged to an Englishman who engaged the landscaper John Tyndale to design the garden in romantic style, with European influences.

It was then owned by the entrepreneur Henrique Lage, who gives his name to the park today, and who ordered the building of the palace of the Lage Park, of Roman inspiration. Later, the property passed into the hands of the Brazilian state.
