Festival de Rio
This major cinema event has been taking place every year since 1998. The Festival do Rio (Rio Festival) includes both Brazilian and international cinema, awards, public talks, and other activities, and has welcomed directors such as Roman Polanski, Costa-Gavras and Todd Solondz, as well as actors Samuel L. Jackson, Marisa Paredes, Jeremy Irons and Helen Mirren, among many other leading personalities from the movies world.
The programme of the Festival do Rio takes place in several movie theatres across the city and includes hundreds of new films, with a special emphasis on Brazilian and Latin American productions.
