Muamba (or moamba) is one of Angola’s most popular dishes, a chicken stew cooked with several ingredients that enhance its flavours: palm oil, onion, pumpkin, okra, gindungo and garlic. The accompaniment is one of Angola’s staple foods, funge: a sort of porridge or paste made from cassava or corn flour.

The combination of all these elements — from seasoning with special ingredients such as gindungo spices to the paste-like funge — makes muamba a unique culinary experience, and apparently simple dish that hides a world of flavours!

Practical Information

Chicken muamba is served everywhere in Luanda — but to get the proper traditional flavour make sure you look for restaurants that use local ingredients!
