The Atomium was originally built for the 1958 World Expo and is a symbol of the optimistic futurism of 20th Century European architecture. As the years went by, it gradually became part of Brussels’ identity. This peculiar structure is formed by nine house-sized iron spheres interconnected by tubes. The Atomium represents a giant iron atom (blown up to 165 billion times its real size) and is a major feature in the landscape of Brussels.

Visitors may come here to simply admire the architecture, but they are also allowed to explore the inside, where they can also enjoy scientific and cultural exhibitions and activities. On the atom’s topmost sphere there is also a panoramic restaurant!

Practical Information

The Atomium is located on the Avenue de l’Atomium, bear the Heysel / Heizel metro station. Tickets cost between €6 e €12, and the visiting schedule is between 10am and 6pm.
