A culture in stone and wood

The history and traditions of this city are marked by delicate wood and stone sculptures. In weaving, they use raffias and fibers from leaves of fruit trees. The art of carving is widely used in tombs of the kings of Cabinda.

The works that will certainly not go unnoticed are the bakamas. These handicrafts are like a welcome card from Cabinda.

If you want to acquire some of the city's cultural heritage you can visit the Cabinda Sculptors Association.

Practical Information

The Bakamas group identifies itself as a secret institution. Appears in different ceremonies with ornate masks of dried banana leaves and cloths. The Bakamas are the intermediaries between the people and the spirits of the gods and ancestors.
