Panjiayuan Market

In Beijing, all those who enjoy Chinese and Oriental arts and crafts are drawn to the Panjiayuan Market, one of the city’s main commercial attractions. During the early 1990’s, several street vendors began setting up shop in the Panjiayuan. As the years went by, this initially local market grew to truly “grand” proportions!

Grand

By “grand” we mean a 48,500 square meter area that houses roughly 3000 vendors and welcomes about 50,000 visitors a day! Dive into the crowds of this commercial labyrinth and you will find a little bit of everything: Chinese furniture from several classical styles, Buddhist statues, vases, ceramics, jewelry, Tibetan carpets. There are also old books, Chinese calligraphy scrolls, antiques of all kinds, works of art and several other rare items and curiosities.

Practical Information

The most practical way of getting here is by subway — use exit B at Panjiayuan station and you will find the market’s main entrance just 200 meters to the west. And don’t forget to haggle over prices!
