The city at the heart of Camaroon

The city at the heart of Camaroon

Although located on Cameroon's coastline, Duala is the country's true economic centre. It is one of the most visited cities in the country, truly a place where everything happens! Home to business centres, the country's largest harbour and the country's main airport, Duala is a bustling city that draws tourists in. Its colonial period monuments and the markets that can be found all over the city are some of the main attractions.

Visit the Flower Market where you can buy tropical flowers and traditional Cameroon handicrafts.

A walk through the city

With its characteristic liveliness, Duala is home to several tourist attractions. The Duala Maritime Museum lets you learn about the city's maritime History, while the building's architecture itself is worth appreciating. On the other hand, if you enjoy contemporary art, the Doual'Art gallery is a the place to go.

While during the day you will gravitate towards architectural landmarks and crowded markets, Duala also has plans for your evenings. Saturday nights bring out the best of Duala's nightlife: leave the hotel and join the locals that flock to bars, restaurants and nightclubs until Sunday morning.

You should try to schedule your visit to Duala during the Wouri River canoe race — it is one of the city's main cultural events, when the Sawa tribe is in close contact with their water-dwelling ancestors.
