To a safe return.
Well along the coastline from Biarritz, we find a rock with tradition in the history of Biarritz. The town, historically port of sailors and fishermen of whales, celebrates with the statue of the Virgin Mary on the top of the rock, the good return of fishermen who face the adversities of the sea storms and waves of the Atlantic. Is the statue that lends its name to the rock and this symbolic place.
In 1887, Napoleon III ordered the construction of a metallic bridge, designed by the renowned French engineer Gustave Eiffel, that connects the coast to the rock.
Today, The Virgin Rock is one of the most famous sights of Biarritz, for a walk, in a place that serves as a viewpoint, overlooking the Bay of Biarritz, Port Vieux, the popular surfers beach - Côte des Basques, and a glimpse of the silhouette of the Spanish Pyrenees.
