Walk through Porto’s downtown

Go to Rua de Santa Catarina (Saint Catherine’s Street) and marvel at the Art Nouveau façades of the Livraria latina (Latin Bookshop) or the former Jewellery Reis & Filhos. Wander around the Palladium galleries and relax in Majestic Café, an establishment which has been considered "public interest property" and whose history goes back to 1921.
By late afternoon have tea in the Império tea house and spend the night in the city’s most prestigious hotel - the Grand Hotel, of which writer Eça de Queirós was a frequent guest.

Outdoor Shopping Afternoons

Start in Rua de Santa Catarina where you will find the biggest brand stores. Go down to Rua Formosa where you your appetite will open up, and head to the Clérigos area where the shops are centuries old.
Take the opportunity to end the day in the Miguel Bombarda Quarter and enjoy the contemporary art galleries and alternative shops.

Practical Information

Planning for what eventually became Rua de Santa Catarina began in the second half of the eighteenth century and was extended to the Marquês de Pombal Square. Over 1500 metres in length, is mostly closed to car traffic.
