Roça Diogo Vaz is located on the west coast of São Tome and Príncipe. It was once part of the vast property of Marquês de Valle Flor, such as Roça Rio do Ouro (now Agostinho Neto) and Roça Bela Vista.
It is one of the most important places of the island, especially for its cocoa exploration. But also pepper, vanilla and a variety of fruits (breadfruit, jackfruit, coconut, banana, etc.) are planted here. About 150 000 cacao trees have already been planted on more than 400 hectares of land, which has made possible employment for 250 workers.
Along with its contribution to the development of the island, Roça Diogo Vaz is also seen as a wealth of history and culture. After a deep requalification, it now accommodates 1 000 residents. It also has an elementary school, a nursery, a chapel and a medical centre.
