This was a real stone fortress in this village and served as the birthplace of Henry IV of France, who was born in 1553. After being transformed into a royal palace by the heirs of Navarre, the Château de Pau has changed considerably in the 19th century, by Louis- Philippe and Napoleon III.

The historical and artistic scenarios will impress you in each room, with royal furniture from the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. And you will not be indifferent to the royal tapestry from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

This monument is installed in a national land of 22 hectares and, therefore, you have the opportunity to visit the castle gardens. It is considered a nature's corner in the city of Pau.

Practical Information

Underneath the castle you can visit the Baylaucq house, a cultural facility which has research centers, public spaces, workshops and exhibitions. For more information, visit the official website.
