Camden Town
What began as a sort of alternative street market several decades ago is now one of London’s most popular attractions: every year, millions of shoppers and tourists flock to Camden Town in search of its famous variety of products and its particular “off-the-beaten-path” ambience. Stalls and shops sell clothing of various types and styles (from second-hand jackets and Gothic / Punk outfits to designer items). One also finds jewellery, arts and crafts items, rare vinyl records, and shops selling candles, incense, and many “alternative” products.
The are three main market areas – Buck Street Market, Stables Market and the maze-like Camden Lock Market – which blend together with the main street shops in a sort of continuum. When you get hungry, head for the Lock and Stables Markets - here, near the Camden canal, you can indulge in cuisine from Europe, Caribbean and the Far East, relax, and enjoy the view, populated by Camden’s often quirky characters!
