The silence of nature

Cuito, the capital of the Bié province, is the city that will give you back peace and quiet. You can get to know this place properly by slowly riding around on a kupapata (a taxi-motorbike).

At Angola's geodesic centre, in Cuito, the Kamacupa Christ the King statue marks the spot – even though its arms are missing, a testimony of a still recent war. The statue of Silva Porto, the settler that named the city, still bears bullet holes.
